Emerson is committed to informing the community about the actions that are being undertaken to address the environmental conditions at the former Kopflex site in cooperation with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This website provides a history of the former Kopflex site, a summary of the environmental conditions and response activities being conducted in both onsite and offsite areas, links to documents pertinent to the ongoing remediation activities, and community information.

Site Description

The former Kop-Flex site is located at 7555 and 7565 Harmans Road in Hanover, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The site occupies a total area of approximately 25 acres. The property is bordered to the north by a Verizon Communications maintenance facility; to the east by the Williams-Scotsman facility followed by railroad tracks; to the south by the Williams-Scotsman facility followed by Maryland State Route 100; and to the west by undeveloped land along Stony Run, a tributary of the Patapsco River, and residential areas along Harmans Road. The former Kop-Flex site is currently owned by Harmans Road Associates, LLC and occupied by the biotechnology firm Catalent Biologics (Catalent). Catalent is using the facilities for the manufacture, testing, storage, and distribution of advanced therapeutic products from its cell and gene therapy division.

Community Information
  • Semi-annual sampling of the onsite and offsite groundwater monitoring wells was conducted in mid-November 2021.

  • Updated information for the permit renewal application for discharge of treated groundwater to Stony Run will submitted to the Maryland Department of the Environment in April 2022.
